Q & A:
When does the season start? The coaches will evaluate each player after tryouts and you will be notified by the following day. We will have one practice March 7th before taking off Spring Break week. The complete practice and tournament schedule for March, April & May will be on the website. The Warriors participate in one day Saturday tournaments in the Austin/San Antonio/Georgetown area. The tournaments are guaranteed 3 games per tournament. The 6th grade team will play 4 tournaments giving them 12 games for the spring season. The 7th/8th grade team with play 5 tournaments giving them 15 games. The high school plays 6-7 tournaments for the spring season. It is only at the High School level that we might have an overnight or two day tournament.
Do we offer summer ball? Yes. It's an add on from the Spring season determined if everyone's schedule works out.
What is the cost? The try out fee is a $35 non-refundable and must be paid prior to tryouts. We have waived the registration fee in lieu of the tryout fee. The season fee info can be found on the website as it is different pricing for age and grade level of play. We have a free throw challenge/fundraising opportunity for each athlete to help with their cost. A uniform will be provided for the season and will be returned at the end of the season. If it is not returned or is damaged then a replacement fee will be charged.
Are we a select team? I believe that depends on your personal definition of select ball. Our level of coaching and training is at the select level and the tournaments we enter we compete against select teams. It is our desire as coaches to develop all athletes into better players on and off the court. We do not give equal playing time but we do our best that every player gets game experience. We are very competitive and strive to win all while keeping a team attitude above all and taking each game as a teaching opportunity to improve. Bottom line is we want every player to improve that becomes a Warrior. We are about giving kids an opportunity to play basketball.
Does everyone make a team? No, but we do our best to place players together at a skill level that will allow them to play to their potential for the season. The 2024 season we are anticipating enough players that we will have different levels of teams. This is unknown until we have tryouts. Please do not assume that you are too good or you are not good enough to try out. I encourage you to come and experience the Warrior tryouts on March 4th. I believe the overall experience of our tryouts will challenge you along with having fun! Don't forget to bring a basketball.
This is my 36th year to coach and I am honored to lead the Warrior program. As we are starting our 10th year of Warrior Basketball, I am always working to improve the overall experience for our Warrior families. This spring I want to focus on teaching good fundamentals and every team running the same defense and offenses. I have already met with some of my spring coaches and we are very excited about the opportunity to work with your boys. I believe the Warrior basketball program is unique because we are about the balance of family, school and basketball.
We have an opportunity for sponsorship and advertising for businesses with the Warriors. We are always in the need of scholarships so if you know of any business that would like to help, please put me in contact with them.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact me, Coach G at 214-918-8707 or Ruth Gentry at 512-745-7249.
Play hard, Play smart, Play together!
